Smith (Taranafci) is to ask the Minister of Defence whether, in view of the fact that the low. pay and otiior unattractive conditions of the teaching profession which for some time past lias been seriously decreasing in number—a condition of affairs which, if not properly checked, will in a few years leave the schools without competent male teachers—lie will at once make such increases in teachers' salaries as will not only maintain the present insufficieijS supply, but make certain of such an increase of qualified teachers as will requirements for the proper staffing,** all schools!
