The final stages of the I.W.W. inquiry have been entered upon. Mr. Windeyer, representing Mutch, Brookfield and Judd, opened his address by tabling allegations against the police, and submitting that some of the charges wore proved, and that others had not been sheeted right home. He contended that the evidence, in the light of the facts since established, was insufficient to warrant holding the men in gaol without further trial. DROUGHT AFFECTS HARVEST. Sydney, Oct. 23. Beneficial rains enhance the harvest prospects, although it is doubtful whether the wheat crops will fully recover. BUTTER PRICES RAISED. Melbourne, Oct. 23. In order to give the producers the benefit between the London parity and the local price, first grade butter has been raised to 154/- per cwt., second grade to 148/-, and third to 135/-. Retail prices are Is 7d, la 6d and Is 5d per lb respectively.
