SCHOOL COMMITTEES' ASSOCIATION.
SPECIAL, MEETING.. A special meeting- of the executive of tile Tara.na.ki School Committees' Association was held, in the Technical College. last night, Mr. S.. A, Smith, presiding.
Mr. J.. B. Simpson (,Moa Association), forwarded ai resolution asking the executive to take into consideration the advisability of holding half-yearly conferences, such meetings to be' held in rotation at those branches which have not less than live contributing committees. —Consideration deferred.
Mr. J. B. Simpson, on ibehalf of 20 parents of children of the Durham Road district attending the Norfolk Road School, drew attention to the injustice these children suffered through not being able to have free railway passes available for the train leaving Durham Road at a few minutes past 9. For years past children had obtained this concession, but lately this has been restricted to a system, of check tickets which enables a few to participate in train benefits, while others have to walk. They asked that steps be taken to revert to the old system. It was resolved to ask the Moa Association to supply particulars of the ages of the children concerned, also a plan showing distances from Norfolk: Road School. v - The secretary was instructed to 'write and ask the Minister of Education for a definite depl.v to the remits passed at the recent School Committees' confer-ence-—A eooy of the letter to be forwarded to the member for the district.
The question of appointing delegates to attend the conference of the School Committers' Association was deferred, and.it was resolved -to ask each of the branches to appoint a delegate. The action of the Department in limiting the number of pupils who sit for examination to 10 per cent, of those available in each school , was discussed, and it was 'resolved to refer the matter tn the Dominion Conference. A circular was received from the Mnnawotu Association risking that a mass meeting should be held on November 4 to nrrre unon the Government the need for educational reforms, partienlarlv as to increasing the erant to £3,000,00(1 It was resolved that the circular be forwarded to the committee set up at a public meeting in connection with educational reform, with a smsirestion* that they call n meeting in conjunction with the association-
