Mr. Thompson, general manager of the tramways, says the speed regulations of the board are being deliberately broken by many of the men, who are driving their cars much under the rule book provisions, and other rules are also being broken. He stated that if tiie demands of the union are conceded the increased payments to its members will aggregate £9200 per annum, and if corresponding increases were given to other members of the staff, excluding the officers, the increase would be £11,500.
