EGMONT ELECTION.

To tbe "Editor. ' Sir, —The warning sent to Mr. C. A. Wilkinson by your correspondent, "Don't Crow,'' reminds me of the many political arguments that the member for Jigmont and myself used to have when lie became initiated into party polities. His contention then was that he was a more advanced Liberal than the party then in power. I accepted and supported him, believing that his political ideals were identical with mine. I had anticipations of a fearless exponent against land aggregation, shipping monopolies, etc. The political talk running the gauntlet of criticism during our election was that our Premier (Mi*. Massey) favored the wool kings, while Sir Joseph Ward favored the big merchants. While I cannot vouch for the accuracy of these assertions, the small men, whether farmers, tradesmen, or laborers, must be represented, and I commend Mr. C. A. Wilkinson to accept and uphold the principles of democracy. Strict allegiance to such will prevent the fate of "Desert Gold." The new era of political thought is taking the place of the old feudal political customs. The success of our newly-elected member, Mr S. G. Smith, I attribute to his altruistic propensities of democracy.—X am, etc.. C. A. J. RICHARDS. New Plymouth, October 16
