V HAWERA SITTINGS, At the Hawera sittings of the Military Service Board on Thursday, the 'Board announced the following decisions: Andrew V. Bourke, leave granted till April 21) draft; J. W. Bourke, sine die; Ernest d\ Christensen, adjourned till January sitting of the Board.
J. I'. Cattley, Mangatoki, application or lehearing. There was no appearance of appellant, and the appeal was consequently dismissed. Later the case uas reinstated on Mr Taylor's application. « *
Lance-Corporal Tozer, father's application for return to New Zealand of the soil, who had now been over three years on active service. The Court inl imed appellant that the procedure now was for the soldier himself to apply to his commanding officer. George H. Cleaver, dairv farmer, Elthani. Appellant, who was 39 years of age, married, with two children, said that Hie was farming 100 acres freeiiold that he had held for eight years, and was milking 45 cows. l u addition to li's own farm operations he had frequently to assist his neighbors in theirs. Adjourned till next sitting of the Board.
Charles F. Bloor, dairy farmer, Eltham. Appellant, a married man with two children, was milking 45 cows ;>y machine on 100 acres leasehold on the Hunter road, taken up in July last. Ho asked for leave till the end of the season. Leave granted till May draft. C.eorge Horace Edwards, carpenter, -Manaia. Appellant was a married man with three children. Decision 'was reserved until after the first draft of D Class was drawn.
Daniel Hennessey, farmer, Kapuni. Appellant was farming 100 acres lease- ' taken «P four years ago 011 a seven years' lease. He was milking 4o eons by machine. Decision reserved. ' Richard G. Hodge, dairy farmer, Ukaiawa. Appellant, a married man with two children, was managing a uairy farm of 110 acres, on which he was milking oO cows by machine for a man at present at the front. Leave granted till May 27th draft.
A. Illingworth, ,factory manager Alton. Employers' appeal A. J dibbs, chairman of the Alton Dairy Company, m Ins evidence, said that his factorv made 354 tons of cheese last season. Illingworth was a very capable man in all departments of t'lie factory work' and there was not a man in their employ who could take his place, nor was it probable that they could, at this stage of the season's work, secure another manager from elsewhere. The company desired to get total exemption for Illingworth if possible; failing that leave till June n«xt. Decision reserved sine die.
Spencer Douglas Mc-Cullum, cheese factory manager; employer's appeal—A C. I'oase, acting-chairman of the Mangatoki Dairy Company, said that McCulJum was branch manager of tko Matapu iactorv. He had been in the company's employ for seven years.—Decision was reserved sine uie, provided appellant remains in the same position and reports monthly.
Patrick MoGlinchy, shhre-milker, had his appeal postponed until January next owing to the state of hs wife's health.' John Templeton, farmer, Inalia, said ho was milking 50 cows with machines on 9G acres. He did the work with the assistance of a girl. The case had previously been adjourned to see if one of his brothers, returned from active service, could help.
Ernest Newlove, farin hand, Whenuakura; employer's appeal—Mr. L. Wybourne said that Newiove was overseeing or.e of his farms.—The appeal was ad° .journed until the February sitting of the Court, and be then reviewed. The board gave its reserved decision in the case of D- Hennessy, JCajjuni. His appeal was adjourned sine die, provided lie continues in the same position and reports monthly to the group commander.
dames Phillips, larmer, Eltliam, appealed 011 the ground of public interest and undue hardship. Appellant, married, with two children, gave evidence that he was working a farm of 445 acres. Until quite recently there were 1130 sheep and 10 head of young cattle on the farm; at present there were 275 young stock and 250 hoggets on the farm. The farm contained 10(1 acres swamp, which necessitated U miles of drains being kept in order- He worked the farm single-handed. He had been a farmer all his life. The farm would not stand' a manager.—Decision was reserved.
Frank Thotnson, carrier, applied far extension of time. He explained that ho was carting principally for clieese factories.—Leave granted until the May draft.
William John Symes. dairy farmer, Otakeho, appealed on the ground of public interest and undue hardship. He gave evidence that he was married, with two children, and was milking 45 cows without assistance.—Decision reserved sine die.
The case of Robert Willis, farmer, Rowan, set down for hearing, was adjourned until the January sitting. James John Walker, dairy farmer, Ohangai. who appealed on the ground of public interest and undue hardship, said (hat he was married, with two children, and held a lease of about 240 aores. He was milking from 95 to 100 cows, with the assistance of a 02 man and a young girl. The farm would not run a sharemilker. He had two brothers (in active service, while he had a returned brother, who was unable to do any heavy work. If appellant were granted leave until April the returned brother would undertake to supervise the farm.—Leave granted until the May draft.

The father's appeal in respect to Frederick Speight, farm assistant, Makahu, previously before the board, was further considered, mid decision was reserved sine die.—The board congratulated Mr. Speight, sen., upon the splendid record of the family, four out of five sons eligible for service having enlisted. John Frederick Cattley, dairy fanner, Mangatoki, appealed for his son, John gilbert Cattley, who did all the heavy work on the farm. —Decision reserved.
On Friday, the adjourned case of Frederick Jewell, farmer, Normanby, was reviewed. Appellant stated that he was married, with one child. He held a Naive lease of 40 acres, and also 20 acres, the same tenure, on the Austin Road. He had another section of 50 acres in the same locality. Appellant also had a butchery business at Normanby, which was run by an elderly man. Witness had some shearing to do this year. Pie was formally classified C2, hut recently re-medicaly boarded CI. —Leave granted until the February CI draft. Timothy Horgan, farmer, Pihama, appealed on the ground of public interest and undue hardship, Appellant deposed that he was milking at present SO cows ort a leasehold farm of 199 acres. The only labor on the farm was a boy 13 years of ago- Appellant was a married man with two children.—Decision reserved.
.Tames Arthur Robinson, share-milker, Huiakama, who applied for time until May, was granted leave until the April draft.

Walter Henry Richardson, farmer, Lowgarth, appealed on the ground of publie interest stated that he was a married man with two children, and lie owned a farm of 100 acres freehold and 40 acres leasehold He was at present, milking about "0 cows. He did all the work on the farm, with tile help of a. boy.—Decision reserved. The board gave its reserved decisions in the following appeals:—John F. Upon the board resuming on Friday afternoon, reserved decisions were given in the following appeals::—J. Griffiths, Toko, adjourned until the December sitting, the board expecting the appellant to advertise for a wheelwright in the meantime; T. liorgan, Patea, further hearing atfjourned until the January sitting; W. Richardson, Lowgarth, adjourned until the December sitting for further information; R. E. James, Tariki, Adjourned until the December sitting for further information. The chairmag said the board wished it to be understood that in cases where appellants had very recently purchased farms it viewed such action with grave suspicion, and that it was the intention to review sucli cases m January next.
Frank Townsend, farmer Inglewood, appealed on ground of publio interest and undue hardship. Appellant, a married man with two children, said lie was milking 57 cows on a fa r m of 158 acres.—Decision reserved sire ii''e.
