HARBOR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly- meeting of the New Plymouth Harbor Board was held yesterday, there being present Messrs Newton King (chairman), J. McCluggage. J. & Uonnett, E. Doekrill, C. E. Bellringer, 10. Maxwell and C. McGuinness. Apologies for absence iwre received from .Mesai-s C. A. Wilkinson. M.P., awl D. J. Hughes. HARBORMA STER'S REPORT. Tin; harbormaster (Captain W. Waller) reported 24 vessels had entered the nor', during the month, of an aggvega.'j tonnage of 17,177 tons. The imports were 7004 tons and the exports !Kb tons. Government coal landed amounted to 730 tons. The America?! senoonor Otillie Fjord, which arrived from San Francisco ou September 12 |and sailed again for San Francisco on October 5, landed fi-11 tons of cargo and loaded 378 tons. Jn a supplementary report Captain Waller suggested that the undredged portion of the swinging basin Should be dredged ar. soon as possible to a depth of 23 feet at low water for the purpos; of giving mora room for manoeuvring lincra, SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. • The works superintendent (Mr F. Henderson) reported that Paritutu had dredged on 20 days, for a total of 175 hours, in which 41 loads were lifted from the west side of the fairway and 4 loads from the inshore berth oil the east side of the wharf, the total quantity oi spoil removed being 18,000 tons. Two and a-half days were lost through rough weather and ore and a-half days in coaling, and in repairs to one of the steam pipes. The Thomas King worked on four days and removed 1840 ton 9 of spoil in 23 loads. As instructed, the dredge was laid up from September 21. The services of the master and one of the crew have been dispensed with, and the other three have been employed in over-hauling the quarry crane and assisting in general works, including the placing of seven concrete blocks on the breakwater apron, the lifting ol 430 cubic yards of gravel with, the crane and grab-bucket from the Mikotahi inlet, and the preparation oi rolling fenders and meat- loading appliances for the wharf. In a supplementary report recommendations ware made [or improving the conveniences for the 'waterside workers under the wJiwf, and the Board undertook to look into tlic question when visiting the harbor hi the afternoon. GENERAL. A letter was Tcceived from tlie Harbor Board's Association asking the Board to take steps to urge members of Parliament for the district to endeavor to induce the Government to give effect to resolutions carried by the recent conference of Harbor Boardß. It was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the district members of Parliament, and place copies of the resolutions in their hands. Accounts amounting to £3? CO 14b 2d were passed for payment
