BELGIANS ADVANCE.
FURTHER GAIN'S MADE. FREXCH ALSO SUCCESSFUL. London, Oct. IT. Sir Douglas Haig reports: On the 15th the troops under the King of the Belgians continued their attacks between Dixmude and the Lys and advanced an average depth of over six kilometres. The Belgians crossed the Yser northward of Dixmude and occupied Schoorbeke. The Britis'h crossed the Lys and pushed several kilometres beyond Menin. The Belgians captured Tliourout, and the French Lichtervelde and Ardaye. The British occupied Menin. and it is reported that they have entered Courtrai. Over 20 villages have been freed.
A Belgian communique states: Our troops continued to attack 011 the w'hole front of attack. We crossed the Yscr at and progressed towards Sehoore. We captured Keyem and reached Prafstboch. We are enveloping the' Tliourout line and have reached the railway station at Wynendael and Hooge, on the Thourout-Bruges Road, where we advanced between Tliourout and Mandel.
French troops readied Turfhanne and gained the outskirts of Coolseamp. South of the Lichtervelde-Thielt railway we advanced beyond Ardoye. The French entered the ( park of Ardois Castle, whence the line runs to the outskirts of Emelghem and Iseghem, which are now occupied. Further east the Belgians are beyond the railway station at Jngelmunster, and have reached the Lys near Bavichove. Several hundreds of prisoners were taken to-day. The enemy all day bombarded Dunkirk and I.a Panne.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. and Reuter.
PROGRESS ON THE MEUSE. AMERICANS STILL ATTACKING. London, Oct. 17. An American communique states: The Ist American Army continues its attacks. We advanced on both sides of the Meuie.
A French communique says: To-day we made progress north-west-of Sisonne, capturing Notre .and also westward of Grand Pre, wherethe village of Talma was captured.—Aus, N.Z. Cable Assoc. and Renter.
