THE CENTRAL SCHOOL.

The headmaster of the Central School, at the last meeting of the committee, reported that the average daily attendance for past four weeks at the Central School had been 595.8, or 92.6 per cent, o'f the average njll of 643; the highest attendance was 610. At Vogeltown tho average had been 47, the present roll being 52. The total roll for the two schools is now 697. Tho report continued: —"The inspectors' reports,on the recent annual examination show that careful work has been done, both at the Central and Yogeltown. As the boys' playground is now out of use, I have asked the Pukekura Park Board for permission to use the Recreation Ground at stated hours, and there is. every reason to think that permission , will. bp granted, Under supervision, the boys of the; upper classes are also using a portion of Lemon.Street during recess. Miss Anthony has been appointed to a position in the West EndSahool. Miss, Anthony is a very conscientious teacher, and her transference from the Central School is to, be regretted. The ..blinds asked for some time ago would welcome, as during portions of the .day the sun's rays are rather inconvenient; the hat pegs, also, would be welcome. A. few odds and ends at the'school still require attention- The surroundings at the infant school . are by no means pleasant for infants; even if no improvements can be effected, tho ground could bo cleaned up' and made decent. The recent wet weather has made the leaks in the school residence even more noticeable than has been the case previously. Attention will be giv?n to the request for blinds; the question of the Courtenay Street grounds was referred,to a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Benton, Griffiths, Coleman, and; the headmaster, it being thought possible that some of the' Central School hoys might assist in the work of getting the grounds in 'order. A report was received on the progress of levelling and grading of the Central School ground.
