WAIWAKAIHO BULL FAIR.
A GREAT SALE. From the point of view of quality the bulls penned at Newton King's Waiwakaiho bull fair yesterday were as fine a lot as have been yarded at any bull fair In Taranakl, while numerically they easily established a record, by being over 260. Consequently the auctioneer (Mr C. Fairbrother) had a very heavy day, but, with Messrs. R. Johnston and Street (yardmen) and their assistants, who kept the sale ring occupied, he got through, his task at about 5 p.m., the majority of the animals changing hands. There wa3 a very large attendance of farmers from all parts of Taranakl, and bidding was very keen for good quality, showing that dairymen now recognise the importance of having a good sire at the head of their herds. There was the keenest demand for Shorthorns, and some young pedigree bulls bred by the wellknown breeders, Messrs. Turnbull and Sons, of Sentry Hill, showing great quality and condition, obtained top prices. Seven two-year-olds by Edward's Dairyman and Netherby Prince ranged from 51 to 71 guineas, while a similar number of yearling 3 realised from 32 to 50 guineas, buyers hailing from North and South, Taranakl and Walkato. Grade Shorthorn bulla] ranged from 13 to S2 guineas, and yearlings from 10 to 24 guineas. Holsteins were not yarded in such good condition, and ranged from 20 to 35 guineas. Taken on the whole, the Jerseys were a good class, yearlings realising from 9 to 24 guineas, and others from 14 to 36 guineas.
