Sir Douglas Haig reports: By Successful local operations in the Selle valley we captured Haussy. The enemy continues liis withdrawal from the Douai-Lille front. In sharp fighting between enemy rearguards and our advanced detachments we took prisoners.
The Second British Army, under General Plumer, is co-operating with lite Franco-Belgians. They advanced eight miles in the past three days, and, during this period, despito strong opposition, this army captured Cbinines, Wervieq, Menin, Wevelghem, Huele, Cuel'ney, and secured the northern position at Coiirtrai.
The left hank of the Lys is now cleared of the enemy as 'far as die north-east of Harlebeke, To-day we crossed the Lys between Armentieres and Menin.
In the towns and villages captured by the Second Army, many civilians were freed and over four thousand of the efteiriy taken prisoners, upwards of 150 guns being captured. The aviation report states: We dropped ten toiis of bombs on railways and hostile centres.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Association and Renter.
