WHAREROA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Friday, September 27, at a wellattended gathering in tlic local hall, ilr. B. Bloor, 011 behalf of the residents, presented Mr. J. McPherson with a pipe for the willing help he had given at the children's dancing class held during the winter months. . Mr- and J Irs. D. McPherson have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in the sad loss they have sustained through the sudden death of their son Jack in the hospital.

The first annual Hall Committee meeting was held at Whareroa on Monday evening, when there wer» a good many present, Mr. P. Hicks (chairman) presiding. The balance-sheet proved most satisfactory, for not only has the hall been built during the one season, but it has been fully furnished and a piano provided. The total expenditure for the year was £373 8s 4d, wli'le the receipts totalled £251 15s Id, leaving a debit balance at the bank of £l2l 13s 3d. As a means of enlarging the hall, it was proposed to add an open fireplace. The old committee were re-elected, with Mr. Hicks as chairman, Mr Murphr secretary, and Mrs. Benton lion, auditor. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to a'l members of the committee for their rood work during the year, a1?o to Mr. Bloor for his help as MC.: Mr. Luacoiubc for being doorkeeper, and Mrs. Benton for dance music supplied nnd auditorship.
