SERIOUS MOTOR ACCIDENT.

SEVERAL PERSONS INJURED. ■ A serious and distressing motor-car accident occurred on tlie Normanby Road, close to the Normanby Dairy Factory, on Saturday morning, resulting in nine persona being injured. It appears that Mr.' J. Russell, taxi proprietor, was motoring a party of nine from Eltham, where they had been attending a dance. The first mishap occurred when the back left-hand tyre blew out. This was followed by a succession of further blowouts in the right front and rear tyres, which caused the car to lose its balance and overturn. It turned a complete somersault and then righted itself on its four wheels. Fortunately the occupants of the car were all thrown clear.

Mr. Arthur Foy, also a taxi driver, Was following behind in another car, in , which was the driver of the ambulance. Tliey motored into town with two of I the injured, and returned with the ambulance. * Tho following were admitted to the hospital at Hawera: Miss Ada Dunn, right collarbone broken. Miss Marion Dunn, both collarbones broken. Miss /Turner, right foot injured. J. llussell, taxi driver, injuries to face. H. Whittaker, mostly bruises to the ; head. Mr. Lussell, after receiving attention, was removed to his home. The following were taken to Mrs. walshe's Hotel at Normanby, where they . received medical attention: Miss Madge Dunn, unconscious. Miss Walshe, suffering from shock and bruises. Miss O'Connor, suffering from shock and bruises. Miss Tong, suffering from shock and bruises. ■ The car is_ considerably damaged, and the wonder is that the occupants were not killed. The hood was down, and it is stated that this saved any fatalities, On Monday the sufferers were doing well—Star.
