PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING, The ordinary meeting of tho Parihaka Road Board was held at Rahotu on Thursday, when there there were present: Messrs J. Young (chairman) T. Harvey, W. C. Green, M. O'Brien, R. Ferguson and W. B. Smith. A vote of sympathy was passed wit 1 !* the relatives of the late Mr Okey, to whose sterling worth both mover and seconder paid high tribute. OVERSEER'S REPORT. The overseer (Mr Harris) reported that necessary repair work had been done on the Ruakere, Newall and Warea roads and the staff was now on the Paora road. The Upper Kina road ihad been patched. This work had taken a long time owing to shortage of labor and long haulage of metal. The material from the pits is of poor quality. Mr Cavanagh is willing to clear out 20 chain of drain at lialfp rice which would be about 2s 3d per dhain. Tiie Upper and Lower Kahui and the Ihaia roads should receive attention now, as a little repair work would see them through the summer. On the Lower Waiteaka road the water tables havo beeu ploughed out in the worst parts. In one place, a box thorn hedge required trimming back. Owing to t'he necessary timber not arriving he had been unable to do any work at Dutyman's week, Warea road. Work on crossing and ford at Taurua road was almost completed. He had been unable to start work on Rahotu and Witiora roads owing to shortage of labor. Some new harness was required, and he suggested that a third horse should now be procured. The crusher should be overhauled and put in order as it would soon be time to start crushing operations. The chairman was instructed to make enquiries regarding repairs to crusher. The chairman's offer to. give a horse on trial was accepted, and arrangements left with thef oreman. GENERAL. No tender was accepted and the foreman was instructed to make arrangements re-letting the work. The foreman was instructed to notify owners of sections to clear noxious weeds from their frontages. Notification is also to be given re- I garding the cutting of overhanging hedges. The chairman's to Mr Cavanagh to erect a guard fence was endorsed. The foreman is to effect temporary repairs to Paora road and report at next meeting what metal was required. The was asked to withdraw his resignation as the mover said the Board might not be in existence much longer. This the foreman agreed to.
