SURRENDER EXPLAINED. SERBIANS NEAR NISH. GREEKS RECAPTURE KAVALA. Amsterdam, Oct. 11. Ex-King Ferdinand of Bulgaria, in an interview with a Hungarian journalist, stated that the Bulgarians oouiu not continue in the absence of clothes and food, which Austro-Garmany, despite promises, failed to supply. Meanwhile the Germans troops were systematically withdrawn to meet pressure on the west front, leaving the exhaustec 1 Bulgarians alone, and thus necessitating t'heir surrender!—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. London, Oct. 11. There are reports of General Mackensen's concentration in Serbia, emanating from German sources. Mackensen is a kind of bogey man and is trotted out to frighten the Allies. A French Eastern communique states that on Wednesday the Franco-Serbians, continuing their successful advance, reached Lake Ochtotza and Svotile. — Am.-N.Z Cable Assn and Renter. The Serbians are within ten miles of Nish. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. London. Oct. 11. A Serbian official message states: We reached t'lie Lipovitza-Kossantchitch line, ten miles northward of Leskovatz.
