WAKE UP NEW PLYMOUTH.
To the Editor. Sir. —K was most unfortunate tliat the dato of tlio annual General meeting of the New Plymouth Expansion and Tourist League was fixed for an evening which was so crowded with other meetings. The committee did wisely in deciding to adjourn until some future time, when it is to ho hoped that the public will roll up in full force and show their appreciation of the very useful work wihich is being carried on under great difficulties by this small (X regret to say) body of progressive citizens. For the league to.cease work at this juncture when the prospects of progress were never brighter must not in the interests of the town bo considered, as the tourist traffic wfren once the war is over will, I 'believe, be exceptional. This branch of the league's work should receive very special attention as there is scarcely another district in the Dominion which offers such a variety of attractions to ths tourist, and these to be made known must bo extensively advertised. It seems alinost incredible that the list of subscribers last year should be only 25 as tourist and holiday traffic 'benefits practically all classes of business either directly or indirectly, and business men who know the value of advertising (which' cannot bo done without funds) must realise that it is to their interests and also to the" advantage of the town in general to support the league's operations. —I am, etc., PKO BOKO PUBLICO.
