ADVANCE NORTH OF VERDUN.
GERMANS EVACUATING ARGONNE. Paris, Oct. 9. The French and Americans 'have made progress for nearly four miles east of the Heuse.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. London, Oct. 9. The Franco-American successes east of the Meuse have definitely freed Verdun. The Echo de Paris states that owing to the latest advance the Germans are hastily evacuating the forest of the Argonne.—United Service. French official: The artillery duel was violent south of the Oise, and on the Suippe front to the north of the Ames. The Germans attempted to deprive us of our yesterday's gains, but failed with heavy losses. —Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc.
