INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Monday, October 7. The welcome news that Germany was sueing for peace was heralded here today by the continuous pealing of the fire bell, and hoisting of flags. A great deal of interest is being taken in the coming election, and both parties are working hard. On Saturday ! afternoon Mr Smith addressed a large gathering from the band rotunda, and in the evening Mr Conuett spoke to a full house, In both cases the speakers were accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. His Worship the Mayor (Mr Geo. Young) presided at both meetings. Mr Smith speaks here on Monday evening and a return address from Mr Connett is expected later. 'The Sti. Andrews' Ladies' Guild sale of work takes place this week. Mr Geo. Gudgeon's success in the New Plymouth golf tournament last Saturday was very popular here. The successful golfer has been the recipient of hearty congratulations from all quarters. A number of local boys are due back from the front this week. The Ladies' Patriotic Society social takes place on Thursday evening. Arrangements have been mad 4 to announce the results of the poll as they come to hand in the hall.
