MOTHER COUNTRY.
HUN ILL-TREATMENT OF :/ j (PRISONERS. London, Oct. C. The Daily Chronicle states that an official White Paper will be issued shortly giving authenticated particulars of the German' treatment of British prisoners. The cases relate principally to employment on military work immediately behind the lines. Many have been killed by shells, numbers starved to death, and others have reached Germany in a dyiug condition, their bodies wasted by overwork, disease, and insufficient food. They are described as walking skeletons.
Cases are known wfhere 12 stone men have dwindled to 0 stone in a few months. .Prisoners are sometimes employed in removing debris from ammunition dumps partially exploded by our airmen, and there have been numerous deaths from exploding shells.
It remains to be seen whether Sir George Cave can obtain a remedy for these savage abominations.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. •
