WHAT 'IT ALL MEANS. Mr. Eraser upset all tlie predictions of liia opponents and all tlie expectations of his friends by emerging from tlie contest not merely as a minority representative but as a majority representative with a margin of over 600 votes. This is 'a result of which the new member and his party well may be proud, but their pride should be rather in the excellence of their organisation than in the response of the constituency. There were, approximately, 9176 persons on the roll, and from this number Mr. Fraser secured 2608 votes, a shade fewer than 29 per cent, of the total,, with the very best organisation and the finest effort any party could possibly put forth. 32i> s surely means that the election was not determined by the support awaiting the parties in the constituency, but by the earnestness, enthusiasm, and organisation of the party that won. The lesson for the other parties ought not to be hard for them to read.
