Hawera Hospital Board announced that a levy of 8d and %d in the £IOO Mould be made on all local bodies in connection with the purchase of the new hospital site, £2500 being raised by the contributing bodies, the Government bearing a similar sum. Twenty-four ratepayers in Turitown requested the council to erect lights at cue corner of High Street and Waihi Road, and Hunter Street and South Road.—First light referred to the Borough Council, and regarding the second the council cannot accede to the request. J. H, Baker, South Road, desired the council to forward names of ratepayers who required a gate kept on the MataiA aroki Road.—No action taken. J. Ashforth, sanitary inspector, drew attention to a nuisance existing on premises at Turuturu Road,. and suggesting cei tain alterations.—Owner of premises to attend to details outlined in the letter. HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER. Stratford Borough Council extended an invitation to attend a conference to be held at Stratford on October 17, to consider the question of forfning a Taranaki Hydro-electric League, also to urge that Taranaki be linked up with the Government scheme for the North Island as early as possible.—The chairman said he believed it would be of tremendous value to the country.—The chairman and Cr. Linn were appointed to represent the council at the meeting.

WAGES AND SUBSIDIES. Thames County Council requested the j council's co-opcration in urgiug the Government to withdraw the decision as to contracts when wages went over lis. The chairman was in sympathy with the letter. The public works resolution did not consider expert labor, which certainly could not be obtained at lis per day. He did not think the Department eouid get the men at tfhat figure, and, if so, why should they believe the council could get the men.—Resolved to accede to the request of the Thames Council. FOREMAN'S REPORT. The Foreman (Mr. Muggeridge) reported as follows:—The culvert by Mr. McDonough's property had been patched temporarily, and a start made to put in a concrete culvert. The metalling of Drckwort'iii Road had been completed. The temporary bridge on the Kiritae Road was completed. The bridges on the road were required for sheep and a led horse, but they were being used for cattle, and if any number of gTown cattle was allowed on them at a time there would be a big risk of the bridges collapsing.—The report was adopted.
