SOCIETY NEWS; Last Wednesday, Mrs Courtney gave a very enjoyable afternoon tea in honor of Mrs Dennis Hursthouse, who is leaving shortly for Hastings. Amongst those present were Mesdames Hursthouse, Mortimer-Jones, Evans, G. ICyflgdon, J. C. Nicholson, H. Chaney, P. Fookes, D. IC, Morrison, Sumner, and Miss Banwell. During the afternoon Mrs F. G. Evans gave two charming recitations. Mrs Leslie Nolan entertained a number of Mrs Hursthouse's friends at an afternoon tea last Thursday, and the competition prizes were presented to Miss Percy-Smith and Miss Humphries. During the afternoon, songs were given by Miss Humphries, and Miss 0. Maekay. A recherche afternoon tea was served, and the floral decorations, which were greatly admired, were massed of purple and pale pink flowers. The hostess received her guests in a smart black chiffon taffetta frock with gorgette blouse finished with jet; Miss N. Capel, dainty pale pink gorgette blouse, with black silk skirt. Mrs Hursthouse, wore a smart navy crepe de chine costume, with navy hat lightened with white ospreys. Amongst those present were:—Mesdames F. Fookes, J. C. Nicholson, B. Chaney, Balharry, A. Kirkby, F. Robertson, Misses Humphries (2), JBanwell, 0, Maekay, Percy-Smith. MARRIAGE. The marriage of Colonel D, E. Wylie to Miss I. E. Daplin took place in Wellington on Monday, September 30th, after which the happy couple left for Napier, where the honeymoon is to be spent. Colonel and Mrs Wylie are. expected to arrive in New Plymouth sometime next week.
