Bayly presided. Mr. Smith, owing to', having to address a . gathering at Oakura, gave a brief address, and wag accorded a good reception. At the conclusion a vote of thanks and of confidence in Mr. Smith to represent tie diw trict in Parliament wa« carried unanii mouslv.
A strong committee of 18 members was formed at Lepptrton last jight to| nupport Mr. Smith's candidature. Farmcrs were prominent. .... .
