WELLINGTON TRAMWAYS.
WORK TO BE RESUMED. ' By Telegraph—Press Association: Wellington, Oct. 4. The City Council discussed a letter from the Acting-Premier relative to the tramway dispute. The Council decided to reply expressing pleasure that the Government recognised that the trainwaymon were working under an agreement tfhich iliad not expired, but regretted that, although the men had been breaking the agreement for the past fourteen days, the Government had taken no action until September 30. The council intiipated its readiness to meet the union jn conference when the latter complied with Sir James Allen's condition of resuming work, which they liad not done yet, although they had agreed to the conditions. Later. The tramwaymen resumed their duties this morning under the conditions prevailing before tllie outbreak of the recent trouble. A meeting is to be held this afternoon between the general manager and the union officials preliminary to the conference between the corpsration officials and the union, with the Conciliation Commissioner presiding, this afternoon. Wellington, Last Night. A conference between the corporation officials and the delegates of the Tramways Unioii sat for over two hours this afternoon, and then adjourned until tomorrow.
The Commissioner, speaking after the adjournment, said s<jme progress had been made, and he thought a settlement might be arranged as the result of the conference.
