GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS IN NORTH. Auckland, Oct. 2. The Government has secured an option over a thousand acres of coalbearing land near the Pukemiro collieries, Waikato, with the object of opening a State mine. Government experts have carried out boring operations. It is understood they are satisfied the field is ono of the finest in New Zealand. The coal can be worked from the surface at a low cost.
