STRATFORD.

Heavy rain militated against the openair address that was to have been given by tlie .Mayor iMr. J. W. McMillan) last evening to celebrate the victory of the Allies' armies in the East. The Town liand turned out, but the persistent rain prevented the address being given from the balcony, go the Jlavor made his comments 011 the present war position inside the picture hall. He eulogised the fine work lately accomplished in the Balkans and Mesopotamia, and referred to the great possibilities now before the Al:ies. On Sunday a thanksgiving service will be heH in the Town Hall at 2.30 o'clock. Addresses will be given by one of the clergymen and probably the Mayor. The band will be in attendance?. Further particulars will be advertised in Friday's issue. The country Copper Trail stands at £IBOO. In connection with the men of Stratford taking over tlie Patriotic Tea Rooms and Mart on Saturday, the organiser (Mr. J. S. Eowe) acknowledges the following donations:—!. Lamason. 1 case of apples and oranges; On Kee, 1 case apples; Sara Hop, %-bushel apples; T. Biehardson, 2 tins ox tongues; Dong Chong, 1 case apples; Lister Bros, and Mr. Cook, 1 ham each; T. Colson, 101b beef, 101b corned beef; Olson Bros., 1 ham. Other donations will be gratefully acknowledged. The menu will be on from early morning till late at night. Particulars will be advertised in Friday's issue. Overhpard at the Post Office:—First Ladv: "My word, what a beautiful liandbae!" Second Lady: "Yes. and so cheap.
