ASisuAij MEETma. The annual meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held at the Soldiers' Club Monday, Archdeacon Evans presiding, there being present: Mesdames Evans, Wilson, P. Webster, Martin, Harvie, Misses Curtis, Devenisli, Wynne-Williams, Banwell, Wilson, Rev. F. 6. Harvie, Messrs R. C. Hughes, Lownsborough, Lash, J. Paton nnd Inspector Collins. An apology for absence was received from the Mayor.
The committee's report expressed great regret at the death of the Rev. A. H. Colvile, a strong moral force in the community. Reference was also made to the removal from the district of Mr T. J. Hirst, vice-president, vrho was much! missed. The work of the society for the year was briefly summarised, proving that its establishment had been justified. A Colvile memorial prize had been established for the best essay on the work of tho society, Mrs Wilson having generously donated '£2s to the fund. The co-operation of fhe. police was thankfully acknowledged as was the active work of the hon. inspector, Mr Ralph Collins. The balance sheet showed subscriptions and donations at £l7 16s Sd and expenditure £"2B Is 2d, leaving £0 8s lOd at the bank.
In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet the Rev. Harvie stated t'hat the society had been fully alive to its responsibility during the year, its inspector had attended all the stock sales and had done, very useful work. He considered that the society was moving now on sound lines, by offering prizes to be competed for by the young. The teachers had very materially helped the society in its work. The motion was seconded' by Mr Webster and carried. The following officers were elected:' Patron, Hon. O. Samuel; president, His Worship the Mayor; vice-president, Rev. li. G. Harvie; committee, Mrs Wilson, Miss Curtis, Miss Wilson, Mr J; Paton, E. Lash,. Arch. Evans, Mr'■Sandford, Mrs i W. Bayiy, Rev. W: A. Sinclair, Miss Banfleld, Sir Hughes, and Mr Moyes. Mr R. C. Hughes having stated that he was unable to act as secretary, Mr L. Humphries was. elected secretary and treasurer. Mr PI C. Morton, was elected auditor, and a .note of thanks "was passed for his services; Mr LownsboTouglr, of. Lepperton, .forwarded a cheque for £ls, Stating that he -would like £lO to go to the Colvile Jfenorial fund', and the rest to the genexal fund, with Mr Lowjisborough s permission it wasr decided to give all of it to the Colvile Memorial. 'A. hearty vote ■of thanks was accorded to the donor.
