DISTRICT NEWS.

RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs and Miss SJiarrock have Hie sympathy of the district in the loss of a son and brother, for Private Bert Sharrock was a fine stamp of a soldier and was well liked by all who knew him. We are glad to hear that Mr Baker's youngest son, Stanley, is not seriously wounded, and hope soon to hear of his recovery.

What might have been a nasty accident happened 011 Monday when Ml' Colmer with Mr 11. Ward were out clearing ground and burning fern. It seems some dynamite had been left hidden in a tin in the fern and the heat caused it to explode throwing stones, etc., which hit Mr Ward very badly in the shoulder, chest and neck, and bled very much at first. At first it was thought that it would be necessary to -take him into town, but later on the bleeding stopped and he ilid not seem so had. Mr Colmor and ■Mr Slonex lent first aid, and we hope he will not. feel any bad effects from the shock. Most lines of cattle were up in prices at the last sale here and Mr Walls' furniture, etc., sold fairly well. Mr Walls is to go to camp shortly. Mrs" Walshc is ill in the hospital, ana Mrs Gibson is in. town with a poisoned finger. There seems a good deal of sickness about now. There is no doctor at Opunake. The district is very sorry to Dr Sharpe, who visited us weekly, and was yell : llbaA irfv. &VArvon»
