Mrs. J. Ridland, Westown, has received word that her son, Rifleman W. Ridland, is progressing favorably. Miss O'Donnell, of Marton, has been appointed secretary of the baby carnival at Hawera. Rifleman A. L. Sturmey, D.C.M., was a foreman on the road at Mahoenui, from' which place he enlisted, Dr. Walker received a cable on Saturday morning informing him of the death of his father, Colonel Walker, of Glasgow. Mrs. R. Giddy, Bell Block, lias received word that her sop, Rifleman R. W. Giddy, was transfort-etl to the Convalescent Hospital on September 13 Mrs. B. Gilbanks, Spotswood, has received . word that her son, Pr'vate R. J. Gilbanks, has been gassed nod admitted to hospital in France. J. M. Hammersley hat won the Military Medal. The directors of the Taranaki Far* mers' Meat Company, Ltd., have appointed Mr. M. 11/ Barnitt, of Fitzroy, to the position of fat stock buyer, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. P. A. Openshaw. A hospital report published on Saturday gives the following Taranaki names: Still seriously ill, S. A. Chisliolm (Hawera). Not severe cases, M. M. FenneH (Opunake), W. G. George (Hawera), J. S. Gilligan (Patea), H. Harris (Eltham), A. L. McAllum (Omata), P. Rowe and Lance-Corporal R. Smith (Stratford). Mr. H. S. St. Paul, late maaiger of the Bank of Australasia, Napier, who has spent the last six! years in Bournemouth, England, intends returning to New Zealand by the next Vancouver beat, and will probably make his future home in New Plymouth. Mrs Elizabeth Ellis, of Bird Road, Stratford, received the sad news on Saturday that her son, Private Alfred Dyson Ellis, had been killed jn action on September 11. Private Ellis enlisted with the 28th Reinforcements, but left with the 26&hs, there being & 'shortage in the latter quota And he volunteered for. service With that cantinglent.
