EVADING AMUSEMENTS TAX. By; Telegraph.—Press Association, Foxton, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court this afternoon, before Mr. Page, S.M., Thomas Powell, picture show proprietor, was charged with a breach of section 2G of the amusement tax regulation, by using a ticket more than once. He was convicted and lined £lO, and costs £2 12s. This is the second case of the kind in the Dominion. MESSAGE TO RAROTONGA. Wellington, Last Night. Sir James Allen has sent the following message to Rarotonga: "The Government and people of New Zealand rejoice in the closer connection with the European community and Arikis of Rarotonga, and gratefully acknowledge the loyalty and patriotism which prompted Rarotonga to send its sons to unite with the Empire in its determination to secure freedom. New Zealand is bound to stand by Rarotonga and the neighboring islands, and will not fail to do so."
