INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
THE POSITION IN THE CAMPS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Sept. 2-0. Tlie amount of influenza in the military camps is increasing, but practically all the cases are taking a mild form. The camp authorities at Trentham and Peatherston are taking many precautions, including the examination of the throats of men who are sick or, have been exposed to infection, and the admissions to hospital are swelled by the system of isolating men who are only slightly ill, in order to check the spread of infection. No new cases of cerebrospinal meningitis have been reported, though several men have been isolated on suspicion of being carriers. The number of new influenza cases reported at Trentham yesterday was 73. > The number of men in hospital at this camp is about 400, mostly influenza patients. There are stated to be no serious eases.
The number of men in hospital at Peatherston yesterday was 15S. Some 230 men paraded sick on* Tuesday, and 30 were taken into hospital, nearly all suffering from influenza. Yesterday morning 133 men paraded si£k at Featherston. One cerebro-spinal meningitis case is in hospital at Peather*ton. He was admittted last week, and. is making good progress-
