A GREAT MERCANTILE FLEET. Washington, Sept. 25. Mr. McAdoo, in a speech, said that the j great sums expended by the United 1 States were not wholly for destructive [ purposes. They were building a great merchant marine which, when completed, would be the largest, most efficient, and most modern in the world. Washington, Sept. 25. It is officialy announced that 13 ships making a total of \ 55,000 dead weight tons, have been completed and delivered to the Emergency Fleet Corporation for the week ending September 20. The Spanish grippe is prevalent in military camps. There have been many deaths. It is suggested that the schools, theatre*, and churches in Masac'ausetts be closed owing to the spread of the epidemic.—United Service.
