A MINISTERIAL STATEMENT.
! FLOATING FURTHER WAR LOAN, SHIPMENT OF GOODS FROM AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Association Wellington, Laßt Night The Hon. A. M. Myers, in reply to a question whether a further war loan was likely to be floated this month, said that such an operation would not be necessary until the early part of next year. Mr. Myers stated, with reference to the complaint *hat rice had been shut out of steamers trading from Australia to New Zealand, that the last three boats from Sydney had brought over 2000 bags of rice. The Minister said, with regard to the position in general, that there was more cargo awaiting shipment at Australian ports than tonnage to lift it. He had been requested to draw up a list giving the order of preference, but he found, on inquiry, that the merchandise usually flowing from Australia to New Zealand is of a seasonal nature. For instance, this month he requested agents at Sydney and Melbourne to favorably regard applications for space for superphosphates, potatoes, onions, pollard and lines of seed grain. This list will be reviewed early next month.
