VICE-PKESIDENT'S NARROW ESCAPE, Washington, Sept. 24. A fire endangered the lives of the Vice-Ive-iiK'iit. (Mr. Marshall) and numbers of M'liaioiv. T.ue fire broke out in a leading hotel. The Vice-President, attired in a bath robe, brought his wife and child down the escape, and other guests escaped in night attire. Several attempted to jump from the windows. The outbreak was easily controlled.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. ANOTHER LARGE LOAN. Washington, Sept. 24. The fourth Liberty Loan will probably amount to six billion dollars at 4J per cent.
