TARANAKI SKIN, HIDE, CALFSKIN AND TALLOW SALES. MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Tuesday, September 17, I held my four-weekly sale of the above to a good attendance of buyers. The catalogue comprised 2500 sheepskins. 1171 hides, 8522 calfskins, 8 casks and 102 tins of tallow. The feature of the sale was the high price paid for all lines of calfskins. The bulk of the catalogue under keen competition realised 20d and over. Ox hides were par to 2d per lb firmer, and cow hides nil round showed an improvement on last sale prices. Tallow is still dull of sale. The severe winter was reflected in the large number of farmer hides catalogued, and many of these showed a, lack of attention, particularly as regards salting. Consignments were received from every district in Taranaki I quote: Ox.—Stout 12',b; heavy llj to 11%medium 11 to 1H; light'lOi to 103- cut lid. ' Cow'.—Heavy 101 to 10J; medium 10% to 10%; CUt !»; -bulks 8% to 8%. Farmers.-CW heavy 9',- to 9%; medium to light 01 to ]OJi dirty and bad condition 9 to 0J; cut 7>/ 8 to 9.}; slippy 6* to 7J; dry 9% to -10%. Yearlmg3._neavy 10%, to lly s; light 13% to 10; muddy B'/,; damaged 4d to Horse.—Heavy ICs Gd to 17s 0d; light 12s 0d to 15s: damaged 5s Od to lis Gd. Calfskins.—Rest lines, all weights, 20 to 20}; seconds 18 to 20; meatv 10 to l<i; cut 15% to 17%; slippy cut and slippy 11%; badly cut 10d; dry 2s fid to 4s 3d each. Tallow.—ln tins 2Ss Od to 31s 3d; horsehair lOd per lb; cowtails 7d per dozen; horsetails 3d each. My nevt sale will be held on Tuesday. October 15th, and f would again ask vendors to forward consignments as early as possible.
