. TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") . Geraldine races on Thursday. New Zealand Cup weights are due on Friday. There were some great dividends at Otaki on Monday. * Mr. A. Morse has been appointed starter to the Taranaki and Stratford Clubs. Waverlcy punters were all on Waioture at Otaki, and got a "limit" dividend. Zola is inclined to run down his fences, but he has too much pace for the bulk of the hack hurdlers. Harold Young was given the mount on Detroit at Otaki, and ho had no difficulty in landing home in front. The •high-priced Kipling duly sored on Monday, but he was lucky to, boat Cotillion, who came from a long way hack. Old Revocation did the Bar Vons a good turn at Otaki *by winning the Welter practically from end to end. Biplane's form on the other side makes it look as if the Greenwood crack will be "apple pie" for Desert Gold next month. Demos was nicely-ridden in the Flying at Otaki, and just scored from the fast-finishing Cyresian. 80-peep failed to see the journey out. Waioture ran the opposition off their feet in the Hack Steeples; and won pulling up by a dozen lengths. King's Park injured himself so badly that he had to be destroyed. Willys Knight can do no better than run seconds. When the Dominion Day Handicap looked m his "kick" he stopped to nothing and Classification romped home. Persian Prince let down backers badly in the Stewards' Handicap at Otaki. Ahiki and Occasion were in • front the whole way, and were followed home by the unlucky Utuwai. A small, but select, crowd figure in the New Zealand Cup, the Taranaki entries being Depredation, Volo,i;and Paddington Green. n Finmark's failure at Rosehill should not be taken too much notice of. He was just off the water, and considering that it was his first race he did remarkably well to run such a good second. These cablegrammers are queer cusses! They told us that Fiiimnrk led up to the last few strides, and then got beaten by two lengths! He must have run backward at the finish. Rewi Poto looked very well at Hawera, and it is a certainty that he won't be sent out eighth favorite next start. The Egmont Racing Club has completed the purchase of about eight acres of land adjoining the saddling paddock, and this enclosure will be used for ornamental grounds, motor stands, etc. Otongo, the gray daughter of Gravitation and Maureen, only had 34 tickets invested on her when she ran third in the Waihi Handicap. She made most of the running and appears to be a useful sort. Roy Reed appeared to go to sleep on Detroit in the Mcßae Memorial Handicap, and it was great to see Gray stroll ' up and take ft off him at the distance. If some of the jockeys that rode behind Glenroy at Hawera were doing their best they ought to take lessons in riding. A good number of punters reckoned they did not get much of a run for their money.
