MooreJones offered the New Zealand Government Ins remarkable water-color paintings of the Gallipoli battle-grounds. ■ . fcapper Moore-Jones, who is an artist .' of considerable ability, was a member of tile New Zealand Expeditionary Force. He landed at Anzac Cove with the Main / Body, took a share jn battles that '- thrilled the Empire, ,311(1 spent many \ months on Gallipoli before the evacua- '.' tion. During that time he recorded with J pencil and brush -the historic beachc, * gullies, spurs and hills, the dug-out«. ' trenches, and. gun emplacements!~ His | pictures are a faithful record and the £ only record of Anzac scenes. The Gov- ? crnment might have been expected to ] seize without hesitation,tho opportunity | to buy these paintings. But as it mat- S ter of fact it has delayed the purchase f so long that there is danger now of the ; collection being lost to New Zealand i altogether. The Commonwealth has of- * fered to 'buy at Sapper Moore-Jones's ■-. price, and within a week or two the ; Anzac pictures may go to Australia.
