WORKERS' SOCIAL
DANCE AT CORONATION HALL. A social and dance was held at the Coronation Hall last night, under the auspices of the Taranaki Workers' Council. There was an attendance of nearly SOO, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The floor was in good order, and the hall was nicely decorated with flags. The music for the dancing was provided by Mrs. Moverley's orchestra. In addition the Citizens' Band was in attendance, and played several selections, and also for the first waltz and lancers: The M.C. were Messrs. IL and A. Moverley, A. Courtenay and W. Way. Songs were sung by Miss J. Cocker, Messrs. A. Howlett, P. Fredric and R. L. Cooper, and Messrs. L. Smith and E. Key sang a duet. The non-dancers engaged in cardplay, the winners of the prizes being Mrs. Bennocli and Mr. Howe.
At the supper adjournment Mr. Fitzpatrick (chairman of the committee) ex-, pressed the thanks of the council to those whose services had helped to make the evening a success, and also urged the workers to. stand and work in unity for the cause of Labor.
The supper, which was served in the first annexe of the hall, was under the supervision of a ladies' committee, with Mrs. Kelleher as convenor. Mr. A. Wooller did the catering, and Mr. Hoffmann kindly lent the piano for the music. It is intended to devote part of the proceeds of the social to the Red Cross funds. Special trams were arranged, leaving Eliot Street for the breakwater at midnight, and returning at 12.45 a.m. for Fitzroy.
