A CORRECTION.

To the Editor; Sir,—Through yonr omission of part of my letter % the reverse has been made to appear to what I actually wrote. A3 it appears in the News the part I refer to reads as follows: "Now it is essential that whatever money is held by the Association for any length of time should bemade interest-bearing, and it is with this in view and, at the same time, to assist returned men, that the Association has loaned money to men 011 Crown lands until the Government loan is exhausted." If you will kindly refer to my letter as I wrote it you will Bee it reads as follows, going on from the latter part of the above sentence, "and it is with this in view, and, at the same time, to assist returned men, that the Association has loaned money to soldiers wishing to take up farming. It should be clearly noted, however, that the policy of the Association has been not to advance money to men on Crown lands until the Government loan is exhausted." Thanking you for .space for this correction.—l am, etc., W. P. KIRKWOOD, Chairman of Taranaki Provincial War Relief Association. Stratford, Sept. 18, 1918. WHY THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE? To the Editor. Sir,—Your Pukengahu correspondent has got the highest price in Taranaki for his yearlings, and he wants everyone to know what Pukengahu can do. Many other districts do the same thing and say nothing. He also has found that there is a difference of 55s between Holstein and Jersey heifer yearlings. Why is there this great difference in price? The answer is not far to seek. If the Jersey, heifers had been as well fed and cared for during the first four months of their lives as the Holstein heifers were the position might have been reversed, but how many farmers are there who look after and feed their Jersey calves as breeders of other breeds do? Very few, and those few are well repaid for their labor. But how often do we hear the cry: "They're only Jerseys; they can live anywhere." So Pukengahu might also shout: "The lowest price in Taranaki." Your Pukengahu correspondent wrely made a misstatement and gave the cheese factory credit it did not deserve when he said the calves were whey fed. Weren't these highest-priced calves weaned before the cheese factory opened on December 1? (Pukengahu bachelors are, I hear, getting up a concert and dance in the scnool this week, in return and as a compliment to the ladies, who got one up some time ago. The ladies then provided a tip-top supper, and the bachelors are not going to be outshone, so they are asking the ladies to bring thedr own and the bachelors' suppers along with them. Apparently the Scotch element is very strong down there, and the Jamias aJid the Sandies are very canny Maybe it's a good plan to make the married men pay for the grub. I hope they'll have a. good night, and, no doubt, they'll be pleased they have saved about ninenenee. —I am. etc., Stratford, Sept. 18. AN ONLOOKER.
