SNOWFALL K WAIRARAPA By Telegraph.--Press Association. Masterton, Last Night A heavy fall of snow occurred at Masterton and the surrounding, country this afternoon. A considerable mortality of lambs is feared. RIVERS IN FLOOD IN SOUTH. Christclmrch, Last Night. Three days' warm wind in the MH country caused a good thaw and was followed by heavy rain. Aa the result, all the rivers are running high and the. Waimakariri has overflowed. In several places the main north road is impassable to vehicular traffic, and in the neighborhood of Belfast many farms are under water. Crops have been damaged, and slight losses of stock have, taken place. An exceptionally strong south-west galo has been blowing all day, with occasional showers of hail -and sleet. V STARTLING INCIDENT AX WELLINGTON. Wellington, Last Night There was a heavy downpour of nu^ last night, and further driving rains tow day, accompanied by haiL During last night's fall a resident o£ Terarce Gardens was startled by a loud; crash. Investigation showed that the; concrete retaining wall at the back of; the house had collapsed, bursting in fliej back door and pushing in tho vails o? the house.
