A GOOD JERSEY RECORD. 7251bs BOTTERFAT Iff A TEAR. Though beginning her fourth lactation period when but four years 114 months old, "Lady Peggy" has recently completed her year's work in a manner which will entitle her to be classed as the holder of the highest certificate of record of any living Jersey in the Dominion. To fully comply with the test conditions she must drop a live calf before the 17th November—she is duo to freshen on the sth November. "Lady Peggy" did not make sensational figures in any one month, 78 lbs of fat for October being the highest. The merit of her performance lies more in the steadiness of eacli month's production, which is such a characteristic feature of the Jersey breed. A glance at the figures below shows that she never gave less than SOlbs of fat in any one month, and on the last day of the test gave 21ilbs milk, testing 7.7. Hough her third period was not under semi-official supervision her test was kept privately. Her work for four years shows that she has before reaching the age of six years produced 2,455 lbs of butterfat and dropped four calves. Her figures for the four seasons are as follow: Age at beginning of test. lbs fat 1 year 10 months . .r.-.r.-.irrr. ■... 534 2 years 11J months ............ 650 4 years 1 month 546 4 years llj months' «,,„#•*.>< 725 2466 The Co# holding the world's Jersey record for a year is Sophie 19th of Hood Farm, who produced 9991bs fat, the test commencing when she was 7 years 11 months of age. Sophie's records are as follows:—' Age at beginning of test. lbs fat 2 years 2 months 395 3 years 8 months 570 4 years 11 months 850 1815 The' comparison shows that lady Peggy has the advantage by 640 lbs fat and a calf.
