awaking. COPPER TRAIL DAY. On Saturday, August 31st, a sale of gift stock and fancy fair took place at Awakino, organised by the shareholders 0 Awakino Dairy Company, in aid ot Red Cross Copper Trail." The affair was very successful and the committee deserve every praise for the way everything was managed. The sale of stock was held at the sale yards, and our popular local auctioneer (Mr Pa.vnter) proved himself "up-to-date." At the hall tiie ladies in eliargo did a brisk business at tho various stalls. The hall was tastefully decorated with ferns, flowers, lied Cross ilags, and the "Copper Trail" design, was much admiredihe r;ft n niooi) tea table which was prettily decorated with daffodils and violets, was in charge of Mesdames Style, Scott, Monk and Thomson, who were kept busy for several hours. A novelty stall was well laiden with dainty, and useful ■ garments, toys, cakes surprise packets. dolls, etc., and was in charge of Mesdames E. and A. Condon, who done a brisk 'business. The "Fish Pond" with Nora 1 homson in charge, was besieged by happv children, and keen disappointment was felt when it was empty. The Misses \. and M. Black who were in charge of the sweet stall were kept busy, and Miss N. Shell found ready sole with her basket of choice blooms, as sprays and buttonholes, the gift of Mrs N. liignell. During the afternoon Mrs Christofferson contributed musical items which added much to the enjoyment. In the evening a dance and sale "of remaining goods took place, the hall again being crowded Excellent mtKi'j was supplied by Mrs A. Sole and Mrs Christofferson (piano), Mr A. Sole (cornet) and Mr. A. Sampson (violin), Mr. Stuart playing extras; during the evening Misses Haslttck and Shell and Mr N Bignell contributed local items. Mr Paynter auctioned the remaining goods, and when the turkeys and geese came on bidding was very keen.
