WHITELEY SPRING FLOWER SHOW.
TO BE OPENED TO-MORROW. The annual spring show held in connection with the Whitclcy Memorial Church will be opened at Wluteley Hall to-morrow afternoon at 2.30, and w'ill extend over three days. The opening ceremony will be performed by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. W. A. Collis). The number of displays to be made and the entries in the competitive classes aro ex. pectei to males this year's show eclipse any of its predecessors. A special feature of this year's exhibition is the public schools' competitions. Some time ago Mr. ,T. Gibson offered a certaij number of bulbs free to any public school which would compete in the show, and the Show Committee offered an embossed shield to the .school gaining the higest number of points in a display of blooms from the bulbs supplied. Some 13 shools were provided with bulbs, and practically all these will compete in tomorrow's show. A silver cup is offered by Mr. J. Gibson for the best daffodil display by amateurs, and Mrs. Gibson offers a silver vase for the best decorated basket, bowl, or vase. The trophies are at, present on view in Carter's window. This last competition has proved very attractive, and about 30 mitries have been received. In the table decorations, in both novice and other classes, entries are most gratifying;' itijd the buttonhole competition promises to be a popular class. The classes for exliibition only, in addition to a iarge number of amateur exhibitors;'will - indude displays by Coopers, Ltd., 'Dniiyan and Davies, Ltd.. Messrs J. Gibson, W--I'rethey, S. W. Shaw, Ml". C. Goodson (of ITawera), and T. French (Waitara). The scope of ilie show has been some* what enlarged this year, and a number of stalls lor the. sale of goods have been arranged. Theso include a produce atoll, which has been provided by the country districts (belonging to the circuit, a sweets and confectionery stall, an art stall by the members of tho VVhiteJey Club, and a plain and fancy work stall. Afternoon tea and supper will lbs available, and thera will be music at both afternoon and evening sessions.
