HARBOR IMPROVEMENT SCHEME.
SUPPORT AT EAHOTU. There was an attendance of about 30 ratepayers at the meeting which was held at Bahotu last night to discuss the New 'Plymouth harbor development scheme. Mr- W. K. 'Wright, chairman of tile Egmont County Council, presided. The scheme was fully explained by M(isara Newton King (chairman), C. A Wilkinson, M.P., E. Maxwell, and J. S. Connett (members of the board), and, at the conclusion, a number of questions were asked and answered. Mr. T. P. Hughson, chairman of tlie Opunake Harbor Board, spoke ai some length on the advantages to the district of developing the port of Opunake. Mr. W. C. Green moved—'"That tills meeting of ratepayers of the No. 3 area, having heard the proposed scheme of harbor development explained by the chairman and members of the New Plymouth Harbor Board, heartily approve of the scheme, and urge the board to, as speedily as possible, take the necessary steps to carry the scheme into effect." Mr. Oi'bson seconded Mr. T. P. Hughson moved an amendment—''That a referendum of ratepayers outside of the present Opunake Harbor rating area and within a radius, of about 20 miles from the flagstaff, Opunake, the third New Plymouth area, be taken indicating whether they will be included in the Opunake or New Plymouth Harbor afija." This was seconded by Mr. O. H. Prosper and lost, only the mover and seconder voting for itThe motion was then carried.
