The Politiken's Berlin correspondent interviewed Herr Erzeberger, who said it was a dangerous and criminal mistake for either side to hope to crush the other. It was the annexationists who prolonged the war. A military victory for either side would mainly lead to an armed armistice. The reason we hadn't got peace, long ago was due to the German people being afraid of being accused or being defeated. The war could only be finished by (he creation of a League of Nations, based on certain main points partly accepted by President Wilson and Germany in Notes to the Pope.—Aus N.Z. Cable Assoc. GERMAN PEOPLE THREATENED. THEY MUST BELIEVE WHAT THEY ARE TOLD. Received Sept. 7, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, Sept. C. General Linsingen has issued a proclamation warning the Berliners that if they spread unfounded rumors, or doubt the truth of Linsingen, thereby meaning the German official communiques, they will render themselves liable to a year's imprisonment. There is too much silly, treacherous prattle as to the extent of the enemy's successes, and doubt is being cast on the resisting power of the German army. Similar proclamations were made a: Breslau, Halle, and Weimer—Renter.
HEPvTMNG'S RESIGNATION. Received Sept. 7, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. ts. The Daily Express' Geneva correspondent states"that a telegram from Munich reports that Count Hertling has handed in his resignation, pleading bad health. The Kaiser's reply is unknown.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Absoc
