DAIRY COMPANY MEETINGS.

AWATUNA., The 24th annual meeting of the shareholders of the Awatuna Dairy Company, Limited, was held in the Te Kiri Hall on Saturday, 24th ult., there being present Mr' S. R. Farquhar (chairman of directors.) presiding, and about fifty shareholders. The report and balance-sheet were duly read, freely discussed, and unanimously adopted. The annual report was as follows: Your directors have pleasure in reporting that cheese-making commenced on August 23th. and the whole of the make was sold to the Imperial Government at an advance of one half-penny on last year's price. August butter was consigned to Messrs J. and J. Lonsdale and Co. The garage at Awatuna is now completed, and the new Austin lorry has also como to hand. Taking into consideration, the difficulties in the obtaining of a supply of benzine, the need of suitable accommodation for a motor driver and also the anticipation of delivery of a large quantity of cheese in a given time, through the congestion of shipping, the directors decided to accept a'tendor from Mr A. E. Parkes for the cartage during the ensuing season at a considerable reduction on the previous price. The profit and loss account shows a surplus of £II,OSC 2s 4d, which will allow of a. further payment of 5%d, September to May inclusive, making a total payment of Is 9%d for the season. Lbs cheese to lib butterfat, 2.50 (2.52), decrease .0311)3; lbs milk .to lib cheese, 10.50 (10.40), increase .lOlbs; lbs milk to lib butter, 22.7 (20.3), increase 2.41b5; over-run, ,10.21 (15.17), decrease 4.06; average test, 3.50 (3.51), decrease .01. Payments for season for butter-fat: August Is 3d, September-May Is 0 3-8 d per lb butterfat. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, which was seconded by Mr Woolford, the chairman congratulated the shareholders and suppliers on being paid such a satisfactory price as Is !)%d per lb butter-fat for' the past season, notwithstanding the several drawbacks experienced by the directors in the shape of cartage, shipping, and difficult transit generally prevailing at present; also the decrease in the supply of milk to be contended with in consequence Of settlers leaving for the front and others going in for grazing, thereby increasing in comparison the cost of production; but upon the whole the late season had been altogether a very prosperous one. The retiring directors, Messrs Duckett and McCarrison, were duly elected unopposed. Messrs Hurst and W. H. Watson were also elected respectively in place of Messrs Woolford and Bradford, resigned. At a subsequent meeting of the directors, Mr S. R. Farquhar was reelected chairman of directors for the ensuing year, and returned thanks accordingly.—Star.

The retiring director, Mr Kopke, was re-elected, as was also Mr Coyne (chairman). Mr W. Power was appointed auditor.
