WEATHER REPORT.
FOR MONTH OF AUGUST. (Recorded at rukekura Park Meteorological Station; altitude ltiu feet.) As In July, stormy weather with cold rains continued until the 11th with an average mean temperature of 4Udeg. The rceord is the lowest for the corresponding period for 14 years. Since the 12th the temperature rose daily, and the month closed under almost normally seasonable conditions. Gales or high winds occurred on the 7th, Bth, 9th and 19th. A violent thunder storm with heavy rain passed over tile district from the south-west at 4 p.m. on the 14th. Snow fell on the upper 4001) feet of Mt. Egmont on 9 days. Excepting during the last four days (2Sth "to 23rd) the average daily sunshine was considerably below the average for previously recorded corresponding periods of the month. Cloudiness ranged from 1 on the 15th to 11! (sunless) on the Sth nnd 24th. Following are the records of the monUi: Maximum temperature: 59deg. on 19th, 65deir. on 30th and 31st. Minimum temperature: 32deg. on 11th, 52dec. on 21st. Maximum wet bulb; 44deg. on 19th, Sldec on 21st. Minimum wet bulb: 3:ideg. on Ist and lltli 46deg. on 30th and 31st. Terrestrial thermometer (3in. from grass) • 31deg. on 11th and 20th (ldeg. frost), 45detc on 22nd. Sunshine recorder: 4inin. on 27th, lohr 28min on 29th; total ISOIir. limiln. The Bth and 24th were sunless days. Rain was registered on 23 days. One point on 23rd, 71 points on 25th; total 7.02C1n. Wind: S9, S.W. 14, S.W. to W. 2, S.E 3 N. 1, N.E. 2 days.
