PATRIOTIC WORK.

A HNE BECOBD FOR AUGUST. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Women's Patriotic Committee was held on Monday afternoon. The Mavorws (Mr 3. C. H. Burgess, M.8.E.) presided, and there were also present: Mesdames Seal, AmbuTy,'> Foote, Fargie, Ewing, Eberlet, Cook, Hughes, Knight, Wilson, and Misses Godfrey and Sole. A report was made on the work carried out during the, past month, which was chiefly the packmg lor soldiers in France and Egypt Thirteen hundred parcels were prepared, and included in each one was a tin of cigarettes or tobacco, while an additional 401b of plug tobacco was distributed through the eases. Sixteen benzine tins of cakes (about 3501b) were despatched. In connection with the parcel*, the workers at the depot prepared and packed 1300 tin 3 of various sizes, containing sweets, preserved ginger, ilriod fruits, and biscuits. A case of "complete outfits" was sent to the soldiers, each outfit containing all required underwear and hand-knitted.soefca and also a pound of chocolate or other lollies, and "smokes." For transports, fonr cases of books and four cases and a crate of comforts were sent, the latter containing in addition to biscuits, cakes, etc., a phonograph and records, and two smaller cases, in one being food delicacies required for those suffering from seasickness and in the other being things required for the men in hospital on board. Other cases were despatched as follows:—Two cases of cake, etc-, for snppers at Trentham Y.M.C.A. Institute, two cases of gifts of clothing, etc., and a case of cakes, sweets, and woollen articles to be distributed to the men at No, 1 N.Z. Stationary Hospital; cases of gifts for New Zealand nurseat No. 1 Stationary Hospital, Aotea Convalescent Home (Cairo), Brockenlfurst, and Balmer Lawn, Walton-on-Thames, and the Volunteer Sisterhood of the T.M.C.A. (through the London headquarters). The cases sent away during the month totalled CB. The donations received included £165 lfls, proceeds of the Pungarehn-Puniho-Warea-Newall (Road country fair, and £2<l 17s proceeds of a dance and jumble stall at Tongaporutu. The correspondence dealt with included various letters of thanks for gifts and an application from Featherston for mittens.
