Sir Charles DBuidett is seriously iH from pneumonia in hospital in Palmerston North. ilr. P. A. Tyrer, head-master of the Stratford District High School, is spending the vacation in (New Plymouth. Mr. T. is. Young, manager of the Ifew Plymouth office of the New Zealand Express Co., who has been transferred to Dunedin, leaves for the south by to-day's mail train. Mrs D. Howdcn,of New Plymouth, received word yesterday, that her husband, Lieutenant Howden, erf the Bank of New Zealand staff, has been wounded. The death ij recorded of Riflemaji J. Davidson, of Kapuni, who died as the result of wonuds received whilst %hting in France. Advico was received lately that Cap-tain-Chaplain Noel Robertahawe, youngest son of the late Rev. E. Robertgliawe, has ibeen awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous bravery at the front. Two naval visitors to Hawera are Mr. Frank Anthony, jun., son of Mr, and Mrs. Anthony, of Meremere, who has been on active service in the North Sea since the war began, and Lieutenant-Engineer Joseph Healey, for two years on active service in the North Sea, formerly Inspector of Machinery—Star The marriage took place at Christchurch on Tuesday of the Rev. Leonard Hunt,of Marton, and Mias Mary Elizabeth Wylie M*Donald, only daughter of the Rev. T- and Mrs. M'Donald, Opawo, formerly of Hawera. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of white georgette over white chiffon taffetas, with veil and wreath of aronge blossoms, and carried a bouquet of wftite flowers with touches of pink The bridesmaid—Migs Wylie, of Welling, ton—wore a frock of pale blue chiffon taffetas, wita hat of pink velor and ermine furs. Master Donald Sloan,, of Hawera, was a page in a white silk suit ol the period of Louis XIV. Another of the fast-disappearing band of Taranaki's .pioneers passed away yesterday in the person ot Mr. Richard Marsh, who died at his residence, Tarurutangi, fj,t the advanced age of 88 years. Deceased arrived in New Plymouth with his parents by the Oriental, m 1841, ani was a Maori War veteran. Hfe wa* engaged in business as a, wheelwright in New Plymouth until about 36 years ago, when he took up farming in the Tarurutangi district. His wife predeceased him about 18 months, and he is survived by a family of six sons--(Messrs T- (Raaigitaua), W. (Bell Block), H., C., A., and R. (Tarurutangi) and four (laughters— Mesdames Geo. Giddy (Tarurutangi), G«o. Hamblyn (LgMterton),. and Misses ■ls. end D. Staeet.
