STOWAWAYS CAPTURED.
ENDEAVORING TO ESCAPE SERVICE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, August 28. After the Manuka left Wellington for Sydney a fortnight ago the military authorities learned that six military reservists were missing. It was thought possible the men had departed surreptitiously in the Manuka, and the Sydney police, were advised to watch the vessel on her arrival in Sydney. Search disclosed six stowaways, and these were brought back yesterday in the Moeraki, along with a youth who stowed away at Sydney, and were handed over to the police. ' Six stowaways, on a charge of leaving Now Zealand without a permit, were sentenced to three months' imprisonment on a charge of stowing away, and fined £9 each—the cost of the fare, or a month in gaol. The lad Duffy, an ordinary stowaway, was ordered to be detained for police inquiries.
